Area History

The historic events and remarkable people who have lived in the nearby area have helped not only to form a city, but also the nation.

As Richmond began to take shape, a nation got its inspiration here. Live with-in a short walk from where Patrick Henry made his famous speech, "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death". In 1784, the James River Company, run by George Washington, was founded to construct the canal that runs just a few feet

away. Transportation and growth flourished and Richmond soon became the center of commerce in the south. Although destroyed by fire at the end of the Civil War, the spirit of the city remained. New dreams took hold and Richmond rebuilt itself.

At The Lofts at Canal Walk you can

experience this rich history and much more right outside your door.
